A reputable contractor will happily provide references from past clients and/or photos or case studies of their previous work. They may also invite you to visit completed projects.

All essential details including the cost estimate, payment schedule, timeline for completion, project design and specifications, type and quantity of materials to be used etc., should be clearly stated in the contract.

Unforeseen circumstances might occur which can lead to changes in design, materials or costs. The contractor should explain how such situations are handled including communication processes with client about these changes.
